FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Blue Ridge Rollergirls, Ashevilles first female flat track roller derby league, would like to announce the release of the leagues new logo. The logo will represent the Blue Ridge Rollergirls as they play at home and across the nation in 2013 and beyond. The league is a member of WFTDA, the Womens Flat Track Derby Association.
January 26, 2013, Asheville, NC- As the league laces up its skates and prepares for hard hits and intense competition, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls would like to unveil the logo that will represent them as they roll into the 2013 season.
The logo characterizes the feminine-yet-tough aesthetic that womens roller derby embodies. Because the league is a constantly growing organization, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls desired to give the logo an updated and professional image that still respected the original design. The logo will be pictured on official merchandise and will symbolize the Blue Ridge Rollergirls as they bout in Asheville and other U.S. cities.
On March 9, 2013, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls will begin the 2013 season at home when they take on the Jacksonville RollerGirls of Jacksonville, FL. In September, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls will host one of WFTDAs Division 1 Playoff tournaments in Asheville, NC. The league has “rolled local” in Asheville since 2006.
The WFTDA announced March 1st that the Blue Ridge Rollergirls have completed the long process of being accepted into the Womens Flat Track Derby Association.
Founded in 2004, the Womens Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) promotes and fosters the sport of womens flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues.
The governing philosophy of the WFTDA is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Female skaters are primary owners, managers, and/or operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues.
All WFTDA member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing bodys policies.
The opening home bout for BRRG will be a double header on April 7th in their new venue, the Davis Center at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher.
