The WFTDA announced March 1st that the Blue Ridge Rollergirls have completed the long process of being accepted into the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.

Founded in 2004, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues.

The governing philosophy of the WFTDA is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Female skaters are primary owners, managers, and/or operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues.

All WFTDA member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing body’s policies.

The opening home bout for BRRG will be a double header on April 7th in their new venue, the Davis Center at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher.

We’ll see you at the WNC Ag Center on April 7th!

May 27: 8-10 pm

July 8: 8-10 pm

Boot Camp Information

The Blue Ridge Rollergirls put on a series of boot camps every year for those who are working towards trying out for the team in November.  During these series of boot camps, the BRRG training committee will demonstrate and work with skaters on the skills that they will be tested on during tryouts.

The charge for boot camps is $5 to cover the cost of the space.  Skaters are encouraged to bring their own gear including helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards.  We will have some loaner gear but supply is limited.  You will ABSOLUTELY need to bring your own mouth guard.  These are available at your local sporting goods store.

Email the recruitment committee to register for the 2012 Blue Ridge Rollergirls Boot camps!
